If you currently use the 10.2.2 or prior release of ArcGIS for Maritime: Bathymetry, you upgrade your existing BIS geodatabase connections after installing 10.3. This upgrade process updates the BIS geodatabase schema to enable skipping non-essential steps and adds support for point datasets while adding bathymetry to your BIS geodatabase.
In the previous release of Bathymetry Solution, when you added datasets using the Add Bathymetry tool, certain processes were always executed to maintain the appearance of the Bathymetry Data Index. The Bathymetry Data Index is the master mosaic dataset that stores all bathymetry datasets added to the BIS and can be important for visualization; however, it's not essential. The latest BIS geodatabase schema provides the option to skip some or all of these steps to increase the speed with which the adding bathymetry process completes. To disable these steps, go to the Advanced pane on the Manage BIS Settings dialog box.
In previous releases, you were also only allowed to add raster datasets to the BIS database; however, the latest version includes support for file and enterprise geodatabase point feature classes. To do this, a representative raster is created to visualize these datasets alongside any raster datasets you may have registered with your BIS. For more information, see Adding bathymetry data to the BIS geodatabase.
Chances are that you have an active connection to your BIS geodatabases from a previous release. If this is the case, when you start ArcMap and open the Manage Connections dialog box, you are immediately prompted to run the upgrade process. If you don’t have an active connection, connect to and activate the BIS workspace connection you want to upgrade.
- Start ArcMap.
-
Click the Manage Connections button on the Bathymetry toolbar.
The Manage Connections dialog box appears.
- On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Bathymetry.
-
Check the Active check box for the BIS workspace you want to upgrade.
The following message appears.
- Click OK to return to the Manage Connections dialog box.
- Click the icon next to the BIS you want to upgrade.
The following error message appears and notifies you that the workspace is out of date, and asks if you would like to upgrade.
- Click Yes.
The Manage Connections dialog box appears with an upgrade message.
- Read the instructions listed.
- Click OK.
The Upgrading BIS workspace status dialog box appears.
- Click Close when the process completes.
All BIS users need to have the latest Bathymetry Solution release installed before they can access the upgraded BIS geodatabase.
For enterprise workspaces, close and start ArcMap before you can use the upgraded BIS geodatabase.
