Importing AMDB-compliant shapefiles into a geodatabase

Available with Aviation Airports license.

Shapefile data from the DO-272C and ED-99C Aerodrome Mapping Database (AMDB) specifications can be imported into a geodatabase that uses the Airports schema. Mapping information for the AMDB specifications and the Airports schema can be found in Mapping information for AMDB and Airports data models.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. Note:

AMDB data can only be imported into the 18B schema. The schema file can be found at the following installation directory location: <Installation location>\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\AviationCharting\Desktop<version>\DataExchange\AIXM\Importer\AMDB

  3. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Aviation Airports.
  4. Click the Import AMDB Shapefiles To Geodatabase button Import AMDB Shapefiles Into Airports Geodatabase on the Aviation Airports toolbar.
  5. Click the browse button next to the Import Shapefiles (folder) text box.
  6. Browse to the directory that contains the shapefiles and click Select.

The Shapefiles to Import list is populated with the list of shapefiles that will be imported into the geodatabase. By default, all the shapefiles are selected for importing.

    Import AMDB dialog box
    Tip:

Clicking Clear All unchecks all the shapefiles and none of them will be imported. Clicking Select All checks all the check boxes and all the shapefiles will be imported.

  7. Click the browse button next to Target Geodatabase.
  8. Browse to the geodatabase the data will be imported into.
  9. Click OK.

The Importing AMDB data from Shapefiles to AMDB Database dialog box appears and displays the progress of the import process. Information reported includes the number of features transferred from each shapefile to the corresponding feature class.

  10. Click OK to close the progress window.
