Organizations use data and map documents to create cartographic products . Map documents define how data appears. For Production Mapping, that information is stored as products in the product library.
Product source
Production processes result in the delivery of maps. There are several ways of deploying the finished maps: plots, hard copies from a press, and digital files. In a typical production environment, a map has many copies. You must have source files to support mass production of a map. Vector or raster digital files can produce color separates. Frequently, production creates digital files only.
Production management
The product library's file management system can archive cartographic outputs. It can also associate source files and products to foster mass production of new products.
Production Mapping is an end-to-end system to store and manage cartographic products within ArcGIS.
