Disabling bottom faces of extruded polygons

Available with 3D Analyst license.

When extruding a large number of polygon features, you can choose not to draw the bottom face of extruded polygon features. This will improve performance, since only five faces are created instead of six.

This may not be useful when you want to apply a negative extrusion on polygon features, because in that case, the bottom face becomes your top face.

This layer properties setting is only available in ArcGlobe.

  1. In ArcGlobe, right-click the extruded polygon layer in the table of contents and click Properties.
  2. Click the Globe Extrusion tab.
  3. Check Do not draw bottom face of extruded polygon features.
  4. Click OK.
  5. The extruded polygon features will no longer render their bottom face.
