Setting the origin of a 3D symbol

Available with 3D Analyst license.

Prerequisite:

Follow the steps below to set a 3D symbol to use a different center location than the default.

Click the symbol in the table of contents and click Edit Symbol from the Symbol Selector dialog box to open the Symbol Property Editor.

  1. In the Symbol Property Editor dialog box, click the 3D Placement property tab for your 3D Simple Marker, 3D Character Marker, or 3D Marker Symbol.
  2. Slide the Normalized origin offset slider for the axis you want to modify to the position you want the origin to be within the symbol.
  3. Click OK.

The origin is moved to the new position in the 3D Preview window.

The image below highlights the normalized origin offset properties for 3D symbols.

Set the origin of a 3D symbol different from the default. For example, the base or the top, instead of at the center.
