Creating a custom format

Available with Data Interoperability license.

This topic shows you how to create a custom format in FME Reader Gallery using Create Custom Format Wizard.

  1. Expand the Interoperability Connections node in the Catalog tree.
  2. Double-click Add Interoperability Connection.
  3. Click the Format browse button.

    The FME Reader Gallery dialog box opens.

  4. Click New in the Custom Formats group box.

    Create Custom Format Wizard opens.

  5. Click Next.
  6. Click the Format browse button, choose a format from the FME Reader Gallery dialog box, then click OK.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Click the Locate Source Data browse button, navigate to the file, then click Open.
  9. Click the Parameters button to edit the default FME reader parameters.

    Parameters can include optional and required settings and vary among formats.

  10. Click Next.
  11. Click the check boxes for the FME reader parameters you want to specify each time you use the custom format.

    This is optional and varies among formats.

  12. Click Next.
  13. Type a name in the Short Name text box.
  14. Type a description in the Description text box.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Click Finish.
  17. Workbench opens.
  18. Click File > Save.

    The custom format is saved as an external .fds file and added to the FME reader gallery. Subsequent use of the reader gallery includes the custom format as a selectable option.

  19. Click Exit to close Workbench.
