Capturing missing features by digitizing them in the map

Available with Data Reviewer license.

When data is compared to a satellite image or another source, you can find that there are features missing in the map. With Data Reviewer, you can either digitize the missing feature directly in the map or indicate the location of the missing feature according to the feature class and subtype to which it belongs. Digitizing the feature in the map creates a graphic that represents the missing feature but uses a feature class in the Reviewer dataset as the target layer. For instance, you can draw a missing built-up area using the Reviewer Polygons layer as the target.

The tools on the Notepad pane on the Reviewer table allow you to draw missing point, line, or area features as needed, then commit them to the Reviewer table automatically.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. If necessary, load data in the map.
  3. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Data Reviewer.
  4. Verify that a Reviewer session has been started.
  5. Click the Reviewer Table button Reviewer Table on the Data Reviewer toolbar.
  6. Click Notepad in the Reviewer table to see the Notepad tools.
  7. Click the tool that corresponds to the geometry of the missing feature you want to digitize.

You can choose the Point Notepad tool Point Notepad, Line Notepad tool Line Notepad, or Polygon Notepad tool Polygon Notepad.

  8. Digitize the feature in the map.
  9. Double-click when you are finished drawing the feature.

The Commit to Reviewer Table dialog box appears.

  10. Choose a status in the Enter Review Status list.
  11. If you have chosen Custom, type a description in the Description text box.
  12. Click OK.

The feature is added as a record in the Reviewer table.
