Moving a group of layers in the table of contents

With the Production TOC Manager toolbar, you can choose a group of layers based on geometry type, grouping, or visibility and move all the layers in the group to the top or bottom of the table of contents. When the layers are moved, their visibility in the map changes. For instance, if you move all the point layers to the bottom of the table of contents, they are no longer visible because they are beneath the lines and polygons.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. If necessary, load data in the map.
  3. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production TOC Manager.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow on the Production TOC Manager toolbar and choose a layer group.
    • All Layers—Includes all layers currently in the table of contents, whether or not they are currently visible in the map
    • Point Layers—Only includes the point layers in the table of contents, whether or not they are currently visible in the map
    • Line Layers—Only includes the line layers in the table of contents, whether or not they are currently visible in the map
    • Polygon Layers—Only includes the polygon layers in the table of contents, whether or not they are currently visible in the map
    • Group Layers—Only includes the grouped layers in the table of contents, whether or not they are currently visible in the map
    • Visible Layers—Only includes layers in the table of contents that are currently visible in the map
    • Annotation Layers—Only includes annotation layers in the table of contents, whether or not they are currently visible in the map
  5. Click the Move Selected Layer Type To Top button Move Selected Layer Type To Top on the Production TOC Manager toolbar to move the selected layer type to the top of the table of contents.

The selected layer type is also promoted to the top of a group layer.

  6. Click the Move Selected Layer Type To Bottom button Move Selected Layer Type To Bottom on the Production TOC Manager toolbar to demote the selected layer type to the bottom of the table of contents.

The selected layer type is also demoted to the bottom of a group layer.
