Viewing the geometry attributes for a feature

The Geometry Reporter tool allows you to interactively see geometry properties of the geometry created or selected. It reports area, perimeter, length, parts, and vertices for line and polygon features.

You can also convert the values to different units of measurement. Though the values are displayed in kilometers by default, you can also display the area, perimeter, and length values using the following units:

  • Meters
  • Decimeters
  • Centimeters
  • Millimeters
  • Miles
  • Nautical Miles
  • Yards
  • Feet
  • Inches
  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. If necessary, load data in the map.
  3. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Defense Mapping.
  4. Click the Production Start Editing button Production Start Editing on the Production Editing toolbar.

    Note:

The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.

    Tip:

If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Show/Hide Attributes button Show/Hide Attributes on the Manage Features window.

  5. Select a polygon or polyline within your map display or create a new feature.
  6. Click the Geometry Reporter button Geometry Reporter on the Defense Mapping toolbar.

The Geometry Reporter dialog box appears.
