Choosing an existing product library

Available with Production Mapping license.

The product library location and the properties associated can be defined by right-clicking the Product Library level in the tree view and clicking the Select Product Library command.

When no product library workspace is defined, and you add data stored in a geodatabase that is also a product library, the product library workspace property is automatically set to this geodatabase.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. On the menu bar, click Customize > Production > Product Library.

    Tip:

If the Product Library command is not enabled, you may need to enable the Esri Production Mapping extension by clicking Customize > Extensions and checking the check box for Production Mapping.

    Tip:

You can also open the window by clicking the Product Library button Product Library window on the Production Cartography or Production Editing toolbar.

  3. Right-click Product Library and click Select Product Library.

The Choose Product Library Workspace dialog box appears.

  4. Navigate to the product library database.

    Note:

The preconfigured workspace XML for ENC and Chart is available on GitHub. There is also one .gdb installed for DNC on Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 at <Installation location>\ProgramData\ESRI\Production10.3.1\Desktop\ProductLibraryFiles.

  5. Click Open.

If you select an enterprise workspace, the Select Product Library Owner dialog box appears and you can continue to step 6.

The Upgrade Product Library Workspace dialog box also appears if the geodatabase does not have all the components necessary to perform as a product library and you can continue to step 7.

  6. For an enterprise geodatabase, click the owner and click OK.
  7. If necessary, perform the following steps to upgrade the geodatabase you want to use as the product library.
    1. Click the drop-down arrow in the Select Configuration Keyword area and choose an option.

Options vary based on whether the geodatabase is a personal, file, or enterprise geodatabase.

    2. Click OK.

If an error occurs during the upgrade process, the workspace may need to be compacted or compressed to restore its integrity. Compacting applies to personal and file geodatabases, and compressing applies to enterprise geodatabases.

  8. Click OK when the process completes.
Tip:

If the product library supports Esri Defense Mapping, Esri Production Mapping, ArcGIS for Maritime: Charting, ArcGIS for Maritime: Bathymetry, or ArcGIS for Aviation, it upgrades the tables that are part of the extension listed in the ToolTip. The product library also displays (Missing Extensions) next to Product Library if the product library supports a solution that is not installed.

You can view the connection information if you hover over Product Library or on the Product Library Properties or Production Properties dialog box.

Tip:

The product library workspace can be unset by right-clicking Product Library and clicking Clear Product Library.
