Creating and populating a database for an instance

Note:

This functionality only applies to Chart products.

The Create Database command performs the following processes.

  • Creates the instance production database
  • Extracts data from the NIS
  • Establishes replicas between the NIS and the instance production database
  • Checks the production database into the product library
The New Nautical Product wizard can be used to create the metadata and product, instance, and AOI levels in the Product Library tree view. However, you may need to use the Create Database command if the creation process for the instance production database was not completed successfully by the wizard. This can be a result of shutting down the NIS in the middle of the product creation process or an accidental shutdown by someone else accessing the workstation.

Note:

The AOI level or levels need to have valid features (at least one feature must have the use attribute set to 1).

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. If necessary, open the Product Library window by clicking Customize > Production > Product Library on the main menu.

A tree view of the product library appears.

  3. Expand Product Library and Products.
  4. Navigate to the product instance created by the New Nautical Product wizard.
  5. Right-click the instance and click Create Database.

The Creating Database dialog box appears with the progress.

  6. Click OK when the process completes.
