Deleting nautical features

Legacy:

10.3.1 is the final release for this tool. It will be deprecated in the next release.

Note:

The structure-equipment term refers to hierarchical S-57 relationships. Historically, these have been referred to as master-slave relationships.

With the Nautical Delete tool, you can quickly delete large sets of features while additionally cleaning and maintaining relationships stored in the Collections and FREL tables. When you install ArcGIS for Maritime: Charting and start an edit session, the Nautical Delete tool replaces the ArcGIS for Desktop Delete tool on the Standard toolbar and in the Edit menu on the main menu.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Editing.
  3. Click the Production Start Editing button Production Start Editing on the Production Editing toolbar.

    Note:

The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.

    Tip:

If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Show/Hide Attributes button Show/Hide Attributes on the Manage Features window.

  4. Select the features you want to delete.

    Tip:

Press the Shift key while clicking features to select additional features.

  5. Click the Nautical Delete button Nautical Delete on the Standard toolbar or click Edit > Nautical Delete on the main menu.

    Note:

Pressing Delete on the keyboard, right-clicking and clicking Delete, or deleting inside the Attributes window will use the ArcGIS for Desktop Delete tool, and the Collections and FREL tables will not be updated. It is therefore important, especially when deleting features that participate in collections or structure-equipment relationships, that the Nautical Delete tool be used.
