When implementing the ArcGIS for Maritime: Charting in an organization, there are several ways to maintain your system so that performance is not degraded over time.
The product library database is less likely to be a source of poor performance since less database transactions occur than in the NIS database. However, the same database maintenance rules apply. Even though the product library has significantly fewer rows, it can store product geodatabases (MDF files) within the database and often require more disk space than the NIS.
The following is a list of tasks the ArcSDE administrator should do to the product library database:
- Start ArcCatalog.
- Delete all versions by performing the following steps:
There should not be any version other than DEFAULT on a production product library.
- Right-click the database connection in the Catalog Tree window and click Administration > Administer Geodatabase.
The Geodatabase Administration dialog box appears.
- Right-click a version other than the DEFAULT version and click Delete Version.
- Click Yes on the Delete Version message box that appears.
- Repeat steps 2b–2c for any other versions that are not the DEFAULT version.
- Close the Geodatabase Administration dialog box.
- Right-click the database connection in the Catalog Tree window and click Administration > Administer Geodatabase.
- Right-click the product library database and click Administration > Compress Database.
- Click Yes on the Confirm Compress dialog box that appears.
- Right-click the database and click Administration > Geodatabase Maintenance.
The Geodatabase Maintenance dialog box appears.
- Check the Analyze, Rebuild all indexes, and Shrink geodatabase check boxes.
- Click OK.
- Close ArcCatalog when maintenance is finished.
