Map packages are used for easy sharing of maps between colleagues in a work group, across departments in an organization, or with any other ArcGIS users via ArcGIS online.
Starting within ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2, map packages (.mpk) now support schematic diagram layers. This means that you can now package schematic diagrams when packaging a map that references schematic diagram layers.
