Creating a step based on the current map configuration

The Step Builder tool on the Task Manager toolbar is used to create a new step as well as set the step's configuration settings based on the current settings in the ArcMap document. For example, if an edit session is started and the edit environment (highlighted layer, feature template, construction tools, and so on) has been set up, the new step will have these same settings.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. If necessary, click the Task Assistant button Task Assistant on the Task Manager toolbar to display the Task Assistant window.
  3. Click the Step Builder button Step Builder on the Task Manager toolbar.

A step named New Step from MXD appears in the Task Assistant window.

  4. Click the Designer tab on the Task Assistant window.

The settings that display for the step are the same as those set in the ArcMap document.
