Showing world files

Showing world (.wld) files in the Catalog window can be helpful when working with CAD datasets; particularly when you are using a universal (esri_cad.wld) world file to georeference several CAD drawings in the same folder.

To configure ArcGIS for Desktop to show world files, add the .wld file type in the ArcCatalog Options dialog box.

  1. Start ArcCatalog.
  2. Click the Customize drop-down arrow on the main toolbar and click ArcCatalog Options.
  3. Click the File Types tab and click the New Type button.
  4. Type wld in the File extension text box.
  5. Type World File in the Description of type text box.
  6. Click OK to close the New Type dialog box.
  7. Click OK to close the ArcCatalog Options dialog box.
