As a geodatabase administrator, you can change a setting in the geodatabase to prevent new connections to the geodatabase. Existing connections remain.
You might block new connections to an enterprise, workgroup, or desktop geodatabase before certain maintenance operations such as compressing, upgrading, or making a full backup of the geodatabase.
