Extracting subdatasets from the parent file

You can save your output to BIL, BIP, BMP, BSQ, ENVI, GIF, GRID, IMG, JPEG, JPEG 2000, PNG, TIFF, or any geodatabase raster dataset.

  1. Click the Search Window button Catalog on the Standard toolbar.
  2. Click Tools on the Search window.
  3. Type Extract Subdataset in the Search window and press ENTER.
  4. Double-click Extract Subdataset in the returned search list.

Optionally, to access the tool, navigate to Data Management toolbox > toolboxRaster > Raster Processing > Extract Subdataset.

  5. Click the Location browse button Open.
  6. Navigate to the location of and click the HDF or NITF file and click Add.

  7. Under the Subdataset Index arrow, select the subdatasets that you want to add to your new raster output.
  8. Optionally, you can reorder the datasets using the up and down arrows on the right.
  9. Enter the output path, output file name, and output extension.

When storing a raster dataset in a geodatabase, no file extension should be added to the name of the raster dataset. When storing the raster dataset in a file format, you need to specify the file extension: .bil for Esri BIL, .bip for Esri BIP, .bmp for BMP, .bsq for Esri BSQ, .data for ENVI, .gif for GIF, .img for an ERDAS IMAGINE file, .jpg for JPEG, .jp2 for JPEG 2000, .png for PNG, .tif for TIFF, or no extension for GRID.

  10. Click OK.
