Displaying dirty areas of a terrain

Available with 3D Analyst license.

Terrain datasets are notified about feature edits and keeps a record of areas where edits have taken place. The editing of measurements, regardless of whether they reside in regular or embedded feature classes, may result in dirty areas. Dirty areas are used to indicate what portions of the terrain dataset are invalid and need to be rebuilt. These steps describe how to display the dirty areas of a terrain dataset.

  1. Right-click the terrain layer in the table of contents and select Properties.
  2. Click the Symbology tab.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Click Dirty Area with the same symbol.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Click Dismiss.
  7. From the Symbology tab, optionally select the Symbol for the dirty area lines.
  8. From the Symbology tab, optionally modify the Legend display properties for the terrain dataset dirty areas.
  9. Click OK.
