Disabling wizards in ArcMap

Wizards allow you to quickly add elements, such as legends or graticules, to your map layout. They step you through the most common options, allowing you to preview the result as you progress.

However, there may be more advanced properties you want to set that aren't part of the wizards. To access the more complete list of options while creating these elements, you can disable the Wizard Mode on the ArcMap Options dialog box. With Wizard Mode turned off, you see the main property dialog boxes instead of the wizard each time you create a new legend or graticule.

  1. Click Customize > ArcMap Options.
  2. Click the General tab.
  3. Uncheck the check box next to Show wizards when available.
