Appending to an existing abbreviation dictionary

  1. Ensure that you have the Maplex Label Engine enabled and that you have an abbreviation dictionary either created or loaded.
  2. On the Labeling toolbar, click Labeling > Abbreviation Dictionaries.
  3. Click the Dictionary Name drop-down arrow and choose the dictionary you want to append to.
  4. Click Options.
  5. Click Append From File if you want to append from a dictionary file.
  6. Click Append From Database Table if you want to append from a database table.

  7. Navigate to the location where the abbreviation dictionary is saved.
  8. Click the dictionary file or table.
  9. Click Open.
  10. Click OK.
