Create Location Diagram Data

Summary

Creates the Location Diagram for a Joint Operations Graphic (JOG) map sheet. The Location Diagram needs the JOG_Index features, WAC_Index features, ONC_Index features, and the LandPoly features for the area surrounding the processed sheet.

Usage

  • The MapIndex geodatabase needs to be extracted from the installed .zip folder before using this tool. The .zip folder is installed at <installation directory>\ArcGIS\EsriDefenseMapping\Desktop10.3.1\ReferenceData\MapIndex.zip and should be extracted in the same location. You need write permissions to the ReferenceData folder.

    Caution:

    By default, Windows extracts the geodatabase into a MapIndex subfolder, but you need to specify the extraction path to the ReferenceData folder.

Syntax

CreateLocationDiagramData_defense (Input_Geodatabase, Input_Area_of_Interest, Input_WAC_Features, Input_ONC_Features, Input_Land_Features, Arrangement)
ParameterExplanationData Type
Input_Geodatabase

A VMap1JOG geodatabase that contains the CARTO feature dataset and JOG* feature classes. The Location Diagram will be appended to the feature classes in this geodatabase.

Workspace
Input_Area_of_Interest

A polygon feature layer with a single selected feature used to identify the center and surrounding areas of interest (AOIs). The Location Diagram will be created within these AOIs.

Feature Layer
Input_WAC_Features

The WAC features used by this tool to create the Location Diagram feature classes in the input geodatabase. The default value is <installation directory>\ArcGIS\EsriDefenseMapping\Desktop10.3.1\ReferenceData\MapIndex.mdb\MapIndex\WAC_Index.

Feature Class
Input_ONC_Features

The ONC features used by this tool to create the Location Diagram feature classes in the input geodatabase. The default value is <installation directory>\ArcGIS\EsriDefenseMapping\Desktop10.3.1\ReferenceData\MapIndex.mdb\MapIndex\ONC_Index.

Feature Class
Input_Land_Features

Land features used by this tool to create the Location Diagram feature classes in the input geodatabase. The default value is <installation directory>\ArcGIS\EsriDefenseMapping\Desktop10.3.1\ReferenceData\MapIndex.mdb\MapIndex\LandPoly.

Feature Class
Arrangement

The specific arrangement of the JOG map sheet being produced.

  • A1 —The map template used for any AOI that is less than 2 degrees wide and between -20 and 20 degrees latitude.
  • A2 —The map template used for any AOI that is less than 2 degrees wide and above 20 degrees or below -20 degrees latitude.
  • A2 Oversized —The map template used for any AOI greater than 2 degrees wide and above 20 degrees or below -20 degrees latitude.

Code sample

CreateLocationDiagramData example

The following code sample demonstrates how to use the tool.

# Importing necessary modules and checking out extensions
import arcpy
arcpy.CheckOutExtension('defense')

# Setting variables
jog_index = r'C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\EsriDefenseMapping\Desktop10.3\ReferenceData\MapIndex.gdb\MapIndex\JOG_Index'
selection_string = "NRN = ''"

# Making feature selection
arcpy.management.MakeFeatureLayer(jog_index, 'jog_index', selection_string)
arcpy.management.SelectLayerByAttribute('jog_index', "NEW_SELECTION")

# Running Location Diagram
Input_Database = r'C:\DATA\VMap1JOG.gdb'
arcpy.defense.CreateLocationDiagramData(Input_Database, 'jog_index', "#", "#", "#", "A2")
