Available with Spatial Analyst license.
Summary
Converts each cell value of a raster into a floating-point representation.
Illustration
Usage
The input values can be positive or negative.
If you execute Float on an input that is already floating point, the output values will remain the same as the input values.
See Analysis environments and Spatial Analyst for additional details on the geoprocessing environments that apply to this tool.
Syntax
Float (in_raster_or_constant)
Parameter | Explanation | Data Type |
in_raster_or_constant | The input raster to be converted to floating point. In order to use a number as an input for this parameter, the cell size and extent must first be set in the environment. | Raster Layer | Constant |
Return Value
Name | Explanation | Data Type |
out_raster | The output raster. The cell values are the floating-point representation of the input values. | Raster |
Code Sample
Float example 1 (Python window)
This example converts the input raster values to floating point.
import arcpy
from arcpy import env
from arcpy.sa import *
env.workspace = "C:/sapyexamples/data"
outFloat = Float("landuse")
outFloat.save("C:/sapyexamples/output/outfloat2")
Float example 2 (stand-alone script)
This example converts the input raster values to floating point.
# Name: Float_Ex_02.py
# Description: Converts each cell value of a raster into a floating-point representation
# Requirements: Spatial Analyst Extension
# Import system modules
import arcpy
from arcpy import env
from arcpy.sa import *
# Set environment settings
env.workspace = "C:/sapyexamples/data"
# Set local variables
inRaster = "landuse"
# Check out the ArcGIS Spatial Analyst extension license
arcpy.CheckOutExtension("Spatial")
# Execute Float
outFloat = Float(inRaster)
# Save the output
outFloat.save("C:/sapyexamples/output/outfloat")
