OutRas = SquareRoot(InRas1)

Usage

  • Input values that are less than 0 will be NoData in the output raster.

  • The output raster from this tool is always floating-point type, regardless of the input value type.

  • See Analysis environments and Spatial Analyst for additional details on the geoprocessing environments that apply to this tool.

Syntax

SquareRoot (in_raster_or_constant)
ParameterExplanationData Type
in_raster_or_constant

The input values to find the square root of.

In order to use a number as an input for this parameter, the cell size and extent must first be set in the environment.

Return Value

NameExplanationData Type
out_raster

The output raster.

The cell values are the square root of the input cell values.

Code Sample

SquareRoot example 1 (Python window)

This example finds the square root of the values in the input Grid raster and gererates the output as an IMG raster.

import arcpy
from arcpy import env
from arcpy.sa import *
env.workspace = "C:/sapyexamples/data"
outSquareRoot = SquareRoot("elevation")
outSquareRoot.save("C:/sapyexamples/output/outsqrt.img")
SquareRoot example 2 (stand-alone script)

This example finds the square root of the values in the input Grid raster.

# Name: SquareRoot_Ex_02.py
# Description: Calculates the square root of cells in a raster
# Requirements: Spatial Analyst Extension

# Import system modules
import arcpy
from arcpy import env
from arcpy.sa import *

# Set environment settings
env.workspace = "C:/sapyexamples/data"

# Set local variables
inRaster = "elevation"

# Check out the ArcGIS Spatial Analyst extension license
