The 3D Pan tool on the Tools toolbar moves both the observer and target positions together, which allows you to move laterally through your 3D view without changing the relative direction in which you are looking. The compass bearing and the tilt angle of the view does not change when using the 3D Pan tool. This is similar to walking sideways while keeping your eyes staring straight ahead.
The 3D Pan tool can only work in surface navigation mode, which is the only mode ArcScene supports. When using the 3D Pan tool in ArcGlobe and you are using global navigation mode, it will not allow the target point to be moved from the center of the planet. As a result, ArcGlobe will automically switch the view to surface mode.
- In ArcScene, click the 3D Pan button .
- Click the 3D view and drag it.
The pointer changes to indicate the 3D Pan tool.
The observer and target locations are moved along the same 3D vector to their new positions.
