Zooming to a layer's extent

Available with 3D Analyst license.

A useful way of examining a study area is to zoom to a layer's extent in the display. This method is a quick and easy way of zooming in to the area of concern, particularly if you have many study areas in the 3D view.

  1. Right-click the layer in the table of contents, to which you want to zoom to open the layer's context menu.
  2. Click Zoom To Layer.
  3. The display zooms to the extent of the layer.
Tip:
  • You can hold down the ALT key and click a layer in the table of contents as a shortcut to the Zoom To Layer function.
  • You can zoom to the extent of multiple layers by selecting them while holding down the SHIFT key in the table of contents, then right-clicking to zoom to their combined extent.
