Security issues involved with distributing data through a published map file can be addressed through the Security tab on the Publisher Settings dialog box. You can require a password to open your map, choose whether to include Internet Map Service layer passwords, or decide whether the published map can be packaged. Additionally, you can set time-out dates for your PMF or designate the ArcGIS for Desktop applications that it may be opened in.
Protecting the published map with a password
- Click the Publisher menu and click Settings.
- Click the Security tab.
- Check Password protect the published map.
- Type a password and confirm it.
- ArcReader will require the password to open the map.
Publishing IMS layer passwords
- Click the Publisher menu and click Settings.
- Click the Security tab.
- Check Store the password within the published map and click OK.
Creating published maps that can be packaged
The Data Packager will only package published maps that have this permission. Published maps created in Publisher versions prior to ArcGIS 9 cannot be packaged. Published ArcGlobe documents cannot be packaged.
- Click the Publisher menu and click Settings.
- Click the Security tab.
- Check Allow data packaging and click OK.
Publishing maps that will time out
- Click the Publisher menu and click Settings.
- Click the Other tab.
- Check Enable time-out.
- Choose to Warn or Inform the ArcReader user that the map has timed out.
- Click the time-out date drop-down list and set an expiration date.
- Type a message that will appear when the published map has expired and click OK.
Adding comments to publish with the map
- Click the Publisher menu and click Settings.
- Click the Other tab.
- Type comments into the Comments text box and click OK.
ArcReader users will be able to see the comments on the ArcReader Map Properties dialog box.
Publishing maps for use in ArcReader only
- Click the Publisher menu and click Settings.
- Click the Application tab.
- Check Open in ArcReader only and click OK.
Publishing maps for use in custom ArcReader applications
- Click the Publisher menu and click Settings.
- Click the Application tab.
- Uncheck Open in ArcReader only and click OK.
Publishing maps for use in ArcMap
- Click the Publisher menu and click Settings.
- Click the Application tab.
- Uncheck Open in ArcReader only.
- Check Unrestricted access to contents of Published Map and click OK.
