ArcGIS Data Reviewer for Desktop includes performance and stability enhancements and other improvements.
New at 10.4.1
The ArcGIS Data Reviewer for Desktop at 10.4.1 includes general software enhancements to improve stability and performance across a broad spectrum of the tools.
New at 10.4
At the 10.4 release of Data Reviewer, two areas with legacy functionality have been deprecated while three current functional areas—Checks, Batch Job Manager, and Documentation—have significant enhancements.
Batch Job Manager
Usability enhancements to the Batch Job Manage tool include the following:
- Display of the current batch job file name and path
- Visual indicator for modified or unsaved batch job edits
- Reorganization of context menu actions
Checks
Checks found within the Data Reviewer toolbar have a new arrangement to better reflect their purpose, as indicated in the following:
- The Slope Direction Change (Monotonicity) check has been renamed to the Monotonicity check and includes new functionality to evaluate M-values, in addition to Z-values; the check is now located in the Polyline Checks group to better reflect these new capabilities.
- The Topology Rules check is now a part of the Database Validation Checks group.
- The Find Dangles, Orphan, and Unnecessary Nodes Checks are now a part of the Polyline Checks group.
- The Unnecessary Polygon Boundaries check is now a part of the Polygon Checks group.
Documentation
There is a new concept topic describing life cycle scenarios when reviewing Data Reviewer results.
Geoprocessing
The Execute Reviewer batch job tool's Analysis Area parameter has been changed to a composite type (Feature Layer and Extent) to provide additional flexibility in defining the features that should be validated using Data Reviewer batch jobs.
The Write To Reviewer Table tool has a new optional parameter—Check Title—and enhancements to several existing parameters. The Check title parameter allows you to describe the error condition that has been detected on the feature, or table record. The Review Status, Notes, and Severity parameters have been changed to a composite type (String and Field) that now supports the use of field values when writing features or table records as Reviewer results. The Subtype parameter now records description values instead of code values when writing features as a Reviewer result.
The Create Reviewer Session tool has four new optional parameters that can help you specify how results are written to a session:
- Duplicate checking
- Return geometry
- Session username
- Version
Session Manager tool
ArcGIS 10.4 Data Reviewer is the final major release that will have the ability to specify inclusion of default checks from the Session Manager tool. New Reviewer sessions created using the Session Manager tool will no longer automatically include the Invalid Geometry check.
To ensure data quality issues continue to be detected, it is recommended that you incorporate these checks—as needed—directly into your Data Reviewerbatch jobs:
- Invalid Geometry check
- Multipart Line check
- Multipart Polygon check
- Non-Linear Segment check
- Polyline or Path Closes on Self check
The Data Reviewer service
The Data Reviewer service has been removed from Data Reviewer. This functionality is replaced with a workflow that uses a scheduled Windows task to run batch jobs on a regular basis. See the tutorial Exercise 3: Running batch jobs as a scheduled task for an example of how to implement this capability.
The ReviewerConsole command
The ReviewerConsole command has been removed from Data Reviewer. This functionality is replaced by the following geoprocessing and other tools to accomplish similar tasks:
- Enable Data Reviewer—Creates a Reviewer workspace or updates an existing one
- Create Reviewer Session—Creates a Reviewer session
- Delete Reviewer Session—Deletes one or more Reviewer sessions from a workspace
- Execute Reviewer batch job—Runs a single batch job
