The following changes in ArcGIS for Maritime: Bathymetry were released.
New at 10.4.1
A new BIS schema version has been created at this release which requires a BIS upgrade for any pre-existing BIS databases.
New at 10.4
Geoprocessing
There is a new toolset called Data Export for exporting information from a BIS workspace.
- Export BIS Metadata is a geoprocessing tool in the Data Export toolset that exports the metadata for datasets within a BIS Workspace.
The new Export BIS Metadata tool is useful for exporting metadata (extended, collection, and internal, as well as a few properties) associated with each dataset in a BIS or a particular surface model. The resulting table of values can be used to symbolize geometries to which it has been joined or used for reporting mechanisms such as an operations dashboard.
There is a new toolset called Data Management for managing data within the BIS workspace.
- Create Surface Model is a geoprocessing tool in the Data Management toolset that creates a surface model within the BIS workspace.
The new Create Surface Model tool performs similarly to the Explore Bathymetry and Compose Surface windows but with a few added functions. As a geoprocessing tool, it can be called inside of ModelBuilder or a Python script for regularly run processes.
Enhancements
- There is a new option to save a log to review or archive the steps performed while upgrading a BIS workspace, adding bathymetry to a BIS workspace, or performing a repair to a BIS workspace.
- The Export Points geoprocessing tool has been moved from the Analysis toolset to the Data Export toolset.
- Support for filtering datasets by more complex spatial queries using detailed polygon areas, lines, and points in the new Create Surface Model geoprocessing tool.
- Support for filtering datasets by more complex metadata queries using SQL expression syntax such as NOT, LIKE, and OR in the new Create Surface Model geoprocessing tool.
- Numerous usability improvements provide the ability to browse through various ArcGIS for Maritime: Bathymetry dialog boxes and windows using only the keyboard.
- Right-click context menus for Explore Bathymetry and Compose Surface are now more consistent with each other, and the option to perform a Dataset Preview for multiple selected datasets at a time is now possible.
- The Reset Filters and Filter to Current Extent controls in Explore Bathymetry have been migrated to the top of the window as buttons for increased accessibility.
- A new Refresh List button at the top of the Explore Bathymetry window refreshes the list of filtered or unfiltered datasets, in the event any datasets have been added to or removed from the BIS by another user.
- A message is now shown to notify whether any configuration files are missing in the Metadata settings location. This overrides previous behavior to restore any missing files with the default version that gets installed.

Models and scripts referencing these tools will continue to work at 10.4. However, the tools and toolsets no longer appear in the Bathymetry tools toolbox. The tools will be permanently removed from this toolbox and cease to function at the next major release after 10.4.
