Measuring distance or length from an image

  • Measuring distance
  • Measuring area

Distance or length can be measured from any georeferenced raster dataset, mosaic dataset, or image service. A DEM is required if making measurements in 3D.

Tip:

The units for these measurements can be changed in the Mensuration Results window Mensuration Results Window.

Measuring distance

The Distance tool Distance measures the distance between two or more points.

  1. Click the layer in the Image Analysis window.
  2. Click two or more points along the feature you are measuring.
  3. Double-click the last point to stop measuring.

Measuring area

The Area tool Area calculates the size and perimeter of an area. When 3D is checked it will use the DEM to refine the calculation.

  1. Click the layer in the Image Analysis window.
  2. Click three or more points along the feature you are measuring.
  3. Double-click the last point to stop measuring.
