Sharing a geoprocessing package

Just like any other file, a package file can be shared through e-mail or by copying and pasting to other locations on your internal network. Alternatively, you can share your package with a much wider audience by sharing through your ArcGIS Online account. Once you have uploaded your package to your online account, you can share it within your private groups or with everyone.

Sharing a geoprocessing package to local file system

Create and share a geoprocessing package to your local file system.

  1. From the Results window, right-click a geoprocessing result and choose Share As > Geoprocessing Package.
  2. From the package properties, choose Save Package to File.
  3. Type the path to where the geoprocessing package (.gpk) will be saved.
  4. Click Item Description and add text for Summary and Tags.
  5. Click Share Share. If there are any errors, they are reported in the Prepare window. If there are no errors, you receive a notification that your package was saved successfully.

In the Prepare window, you can right-click each entry in the list to get a quick suggestion on how you can address that specific issue. This also gives you access to a help topic with more information, such as additional repair options. The item in bold in each list provides the default approach for addressing each issue.

  6. Navigate to your saved package on your local file system. You can now share your package with others by attaching to an e-mail, copying it to another disk, or using any other file transfer method.

  2. From the package properties, choose Upload package to my ArcGIS Online Account.
  3. Edit the name of your package or leave the default.
  4. Click ArcGIS Online and type your Esri Global Account user name and password to connect to ArcGIS Online.
  5. Once you are connected to ArcGIS Online, you can choose to share your package with everyone or with specific groups.
  6. Click Item Description and add text for Summary and Tags.
  7. Click Share Share. If there are any errors, they are reported in the Prepare window. Your package is uploaded and added to your content on ArcGIS Online for others to search for and download.

In the Prepare window, you can right-click each entry in the list to get a quick suggestion on how you can address that specific issue. This also gives you access to a help topic with more information, such as additional repair options. The item in bold in each list provides the default approach for addressing each issue.

Package files that are saved to your local file system can be uploaded to ArcGIS Online in the following ways:

  • Using the Share Package tool
  • Logging in to ArcGIS Online and, from within your content, using Add Item to upload your geoprocessing package
