Digitizing a 3D line graphic in ArcScene

Available with 3D Analyst license.

You can define a 3D route or view line in ArcScene by adding line graphics.

Default properties such as size, color, and symbol can be set prior to digitizing new line graphic elements. For more information, see Setting default properties for 3D graphics in ArcScene.

  1. Click the New Line tool New Line on the 3D Graphics toolbar.
  2. Click the first point on the surface or object you want to digitize.
  3. Click around the display to add any additional vertices, double-clicking the final point.
  4. A line graphic is drawn between the vertices you digitized.

To make changes to that graphic's properties, right-click the selection and click Properties. These settings will not affect future elements you digitize.
Tip:
You can make a digitized line conform to a surface by digitizing additional vertices along its length or make it intersect the surface by digitizing fewer vertices. Since the line digitizing tool is not a profiling tool (heights are obtained at digitized points and not interpolated between them), the resulting lines may not conform to the surface. To make lines conform to the surface more closely, digitize additional points.
