Introduction to configuring the BIS workspace in SQL Server Express

The geodatabase is a container used to hold a collection of datasets. The SQL Server Express setup for the Bathymetric Information System (BIS) geodatabase can be one of two types:

  • Personal geodatabase—Stored in a relational database. ArcGIS for Maritime: Bathymetry supports a desktop geodatabase. This geodatabase has a 2 GB size limit, and is limited to one editor and four viewers.
  • Workgroup geodatabase—Stored in a relational database. ArcGIS for Maritime: Bathymetry supports a workgroup geodatabase. This geodatabase has a 2 GB size limit, and is limited to 10 editors.

See Types of geodatabases for more information.

This workflow guides you on how to set up the BIS workspace in one of these geodatabases.
