Enabling texture compression for a multipatch layer

Available with 3D Analyst license.

You can often gain performance by displaying multipatch textures in a compressed image format. Textures are the images displayed on the exterior shell of a multipatch features, so like regular images you may be used to (for example JPEG), compressing the images reduces the files size and improves memory management and performance.

  1. Right-click the multipatch layer in the table of contents and click Properties.
  2. The Layer Properties dialog box opens.
  3. Click the Globe Display tab and go to the Rendering section.
  4. Check theRendering with compressed textures option to enable it.
  5. Click OK.
Tip:
  • This type of compression is similar to that used for photographic images in JPEG format. The file size is reduced and written to the graphics card for improved performance. Visually, there is little noticeable degradation.
