Note:

If your event feature class is modeled in advance, you should ensure the spatial reference, x,y, z-, and m-tolerance and resolution of the event feature class matches that of its associated network. For more information about tolerance and resolution in Pipeline Referencing, see Tolerance and resolution settings for the LRS. It is also recommended that you have the appropriate indexes created to improve performance in your event tables and ensure the registration process is not slow due to a lack of database indexes.

Events within the geodatabase

In Pipeline Referencing, events are stored as feature classes within the same geodatabase as the LRS. Pipeline Referencing manages the shape of the event features based on the route, measure, and to and from dates. This provides increased performance in ArcGIS for mapping and spatial query of the event data. When registering an event, you can model the feature class in advance, have Pipeline Referencing create the new feature class for you, or copy the schema from another table or feature class to the new feature class being created. Once an event is registered with Pipeline Referencing, any existing event records can be loaded using the Append Events geoprocessing tool. Once an event is registered, Pipeline Referencing manages the event. When edits made to a route have an impact on event measures via the event measure behavior configuration, the changes are made directly to the event feature class. After performing and saving edits with the Pipeline Referencing editing tools in ArcGIS Pro, run Apply Event Behaviors tool to update the event locations.

Referent offset events

Pipeline Referencing supports referent offsets being used to manage the location of events. When registering an event within the geodatabase with the LRS, you specify a route ID and measure columns to inform Pipeline Referencing how to locate the events on the network. If your events also have referent columns configured, you can locate events based on an offset from the location of another entity. In some cases, that entity could be another event, point feature class, or x,y coordinates. For more information on referent offset events, see .
