You can smooth a feature by using the Smooth command on the Advanced Editing toolbar or the Smooth Line geoprocessing tool or Smooth Polygon geoprocessing tool. The following steps describe the Smooth command, which smooths only one selected line. To smooth multiple lines, use the geoprocessing tools.
- Click the Edit tool
on the Editor toolbar and click the feature.
- Click Smooth
on the Advanced Editing toolbar.
- Type the maximum allowable offset.
- Click OK.
The maximum allowable offset is used to derive an intermediate, simplified line from the input line. From this intermediate line, a final smoothed line is then produced. The offset is in map units. You can also give the value in other units by specifying a distance units abbreviation with the value that you enter. To learn more, see About distance units and editing .
