There are several tools available for creating a composite template. The table below shows the names of the tools, the types of geometries they create, and the result of the edit sketch. Examples for the composite template's use are also provided.
Construction tool name | Geometry types created | Edit sketch result | Example |
---|---|---|---|
Coincident Points | Points | One point feature is created for each point template in the composite template. All features are created at the same location. | Nautical Aid to Navigation features, where buoys and beacons are points created in the same location. |
Coincident Lines | Lines | One feature is created for each line template in the composite template. All features have the geometry of the sketched line. | Bridges and roads. |
Coincident Polygons | Polygons | One polygon feature is created for each polygon template in the composite template. All features have the geometry of the sketched polygon. | |
Line/Polygon | Lines and polygons | One polygon feature is created for each polygon template in the composite template with the geometry of the sketched polygon. One line will be created for each line template in the composite template. The geometry of the lines is the boundary of the polygon. | Island area with a coastline as the boundary. |
Polygon/Center Point | Points and polygons (lines optional) | One polygon feature is created for each polygon template in the composite template using the geometry of the sketched polygon. One point feature is created for each point template in the composite template. The points are located in the center of the edit sketch. If lines are included in the composite template, the geometry of the line features is the boundary of the polygon. | Buildings can be collected as both polygons and points to represent the features at different scales. |
Polygon/Start Point | Points and polygons (lines optional) | One polygon feature is created for each polygon template in the composite template using the geometry of the sketched polygon. One point feature is created for each point template in the composite template. The points are located at the start of the edit sketch. If lines are included in the composite template, the geometry of the line features is the boundary of the polygon. | |
Line with Start or End Point | Points and lines | One line feature is created for each line template in the composite template using the geometry of the sketched line. One point feature is created for each point template in the composite template. The points are located at either the start or end of the edit sketch. | Utilities examples include creating a hydrant point at the end of a hydrant lateral. The beginning of the hydrant lateral could also have a connector. |
Line/Center Point | Points and lines | One line feature is created for each line template in the composite template using the geometry of the sketched line. One point feature is created for each point template in the composite template. The points are located at the midpoint of the line sketch. | |
Point At Polygon Vertices | Points and polygons | One polygon feature is created for each polygon template in the composite template using the geometry of the sketched polygon. One point feature is created for each point template in the composite template. The points are located at every vertex along the edit sketch. If lines are included in the composite template, the geometry of the line features is the boundary of the polygon. | |
Point/Line | Points and lines | One feature is created for each line template in the composite template using the geometry of the sketched line. Point features are created for each point template in the composite template. The points are located at every vertex along the edit sketch. | When collecting power lines, a vertex would be added when the power line changes direction. A power pole would be placed at every vertex. |
Line with Start and End Points | Points and lines | One line feature is created for each line template in the composite template using the geometry of the sketched line. One point feature is created for each point template in the composite template. The points are located at both the start and end of the edit sketch. |
