Prevent geodatabase connections

Available with Standard or Advanced license.

As a geodatabase administrator, you can change a setting in the geodatabase to prevent new connections to the geodatabase. Existing connections remain.

You might block new connections to a geodatabase before certain maintenance operations such as compressing, upgrading, or making a full backup of the geodatabase.

  1. Start an ArcGIS Desktop client.
  2. Connect to the geodatabase as the geodatabase administrator.
  3. Right-click the database connection and click Properties.
  4. Click Connections.
  5. Uncheck Geodatabase is accepting connections.

No new connections can be made to the geodatabase. Existing connections remain active.

    Note:

The geodatabase administrator can always make a connection to the geodatabase regardless of how this property is set.

If you also need to remove existing connections, see Manage connections to an enterprise geodatabase in SQL Server.
