In ArcMap and ArcGlobe a terrain surface layer can be symbolized to indicate slope across the surface. These steps describe how to display terrain dataset faces by slope value.
- Right-click the terrain layer in the table of contents and select Properties.
- Click the Symbology tab.
- Uncheck Elevation (or any other face renderer that is checked).
- Click Add.
- Click Face slope with graduated color ramp.
- Click Add.
- Click Dismiss.
- Optionally, click the Color Ramp drop-down arrow and click a new color ramp.
- Click OK.
The terrain faces are rendered with colors to indicate the slope of the terrain.
