License Manager Guide

Configuring license borrowing

License borrowing allows users of ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Engine Runtime, Esri CityEngine, and ArcGIS Pro concurrent use to temporarily take licenses from the license manager and install them locally on their machines to use when off the network.

  1. Launch ArcGIS License Server Administrator from Start > Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager > License Server Administrator.
  2. Choose Configure from the table of contents.
  3. Check the Allow License Borrowing check box if unchecked.
  4. Enter the maximum number of days for which licenses can be borrowed. Shorter borrowing timeouts are recommended.
  5. Click Apply to apply changes and restart the service.

For controlling borrow timeouts for individual features, please see the Option file topic ACTIVATION_EXPIRY_DAYS.

Note:

Borrowing concurrent use licenses does not apply to ArcGIS Pro and Premium Apps using named user entitlements. ArcGIS Pro and Premium App named user software can be run offline only if an administrator has configured the specified named user to have this permission in Portal for ArcGIS. For ArcGIS Pro, more information can be found in the ArcGIS Pro Help documentation.
