With the Production Planarize tool, you can create multiple line features by splitting the features at the places where they intersect. This can be useful when you have nontopological line work that has been "spaghetti" digitized or imported from a computer-aided design (CAD) drawing. In addition, Production Planarize notifies the edit environment of features that have been modified or created, which, in turn, runs any automated edit processes such as the global feature identifier (GFID) generator.

When using the Production Planarize tool, you first start an edit session, select a feature to edit, then enter a cluster tolerance for the feature. The cluster tolerance is the distance range in which all vertices and boundaries in a feature dataset are considered identical or coincident. The Production Planarize cluster tolerance is expressed in units of your data.
