An overview of the Utilities toolset

The Utilities toolset contains tools leveraged by other tools—such as the Create Rapid Graphic tool—in the Esri Defense Mapping toolbox.

Tool	Description
Convert Labels To Annotation	Defense Mapping production tool that converts MTM and TM labels to annotation based on an input annotation feature class and map document.
Create Adjoining Sheet Guide Data	Esri Defense Mapping cartographic production tool that creates data used in the adjoining sheet guide of defense mapping templates. This tool uses an input area of interest (AOI) to find surrounding areas of interest. It creates data within those AOIs in the ASG_COAST_L and ASG_LAND_A feature classes.
Create Elevation Guide Data	Esri Defense Mapping cartographic production tool that creates data used in the adjoining sheet guide of defense mapping templates. This tool uses an input area of interest (AOI) to find surrounding areas of interest. It creates data within those AOIs in the ASG_COAST_L and ASG_LAND_A feature classes.
Create Location Diagram Data	Creates the Location Diagram for a Joint Operations Graphic (JOG) map sheet. The Location Diagram needs the JOG_Index features, WAC_Index features, ONC_Index features, and the LandPoly features for the area surrounding the processed sheet.
Export Map Document	Exports a map document to either PDF, Production PDF, or a map package.
Extract Files	Esri Defense Mapping cartographic production tool that extracts all of the contents of a ZIP file to a specified folder. For example, you can unzip the file geodatabase that is installed with Defense Mapping.
Grid XML Selector	Esri Defense Mapping cartographic production tool that returns the correct grid .xml file for a given grid type and area of interest (AOI). You can use the returned .xml file in the Make Defense Grids and Graticules or Batch Make Defense Grids and Graticules tools.
Set Data Source	Changes the data source on layers within a map document (MXD).
Unpack Product Files	Esri Defense Mapping tool that copies and extracts selected product files to the path provided by the user. It also sets a registry key to the provided path to be used by any of the Defense Mapping tools in obtaining paths to the product files.
Update Data Frames	Adjusts the size of the data frames in the map document based on the product type.
