Relocating a feature for a Notice to Mariners change

NTM files can describe geometry modifications, including moving a shape from one position to another. You use the Relocate command on the Notice to Mariners dialog box to perform the geometry update.

Tip:

For relocating a feature, it is important to keep in mind that the selection buffer is 10 percent of the extent shown in the XY field, and it's helpful not to be zoomed in too close.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. If necessary, set up the DNC production environment.
  3. Click the Production Start Editing button Production Start Editing on the Production Editing toolbar.

    Note:

The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.

    Tip:

If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Show/Hide Attributes button Show/Hide Attributes on the Manage Features window.

  4. Click the Notice To Mariners button Notice To Mariners on the Nautical DNC toolbar.
  5. Navigate to the location of the parsed NGA text file and click Select.

The Notice to Mariners dialog box appears.

  6. Click the Target Layer drop-down arrow and choose a target layer.
  7. Right-click the reference number and click Relocate.

A message box appears that designates the from and to locations for the feature.

    Tip:

If a feature can't be found within the given coordinates, a message prompts you to select a feature (provided that the correct target layer is set) and click the Relocate button Relocate to relocate the feature.

  8. Click OK.

The geometry moves to its new location.
