Finding a service area using geoprocessing tools

Available with Network Analyst license.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. On the menu bar, click Geoprocessing > Search For Tools.

The dockable Search window opens with the Tools category selected.

  3. In the search text box, type Make Service Area Layer and press ENTER.

    Note:

Depending on your needs, you might want to use the Generate Service Areas tool instead of the Make Service Area Layer tool and the tools listed in the rest of these steps. In general, Generate Service Areas encapsulates the other tools listed below and provides output formats that simplify the process of creating a web service.

The results of the search are listed in the Search window.

  4. Click Search Tools.

The Search window lists tools that are related to the search string you entered.

  5. Click the Make Service Area Layer link.

The Make Service Area Layer dialog box opens.

  6. Specify the parameters on the tool's dialog box.
