Rebuilding the topology cache

When you select a topology element using the Topology Edit tool, ArcMap creates a topology cache. The topology cache stores the topological relationships between edges and nodes of the features that fall within the current display extent. If you are editing with the map zoomed in to a small area and you go back to a previous extent, some of the features in the new extent might not be in the topology cache. You can rebuild the topology cache to include these features.

When editing features in a topology, build the topology cache after making edits that change the topological connections among features. For example, rebuild it after modifying an edge to cross another or using the Shared Features window to exclude some features from the edit.

  1. Click the Topology Edit tool Topology Edit Tool on the Topology toolbar.
  2. Right-click the map and click Build Topology Cache.

The topological relationships between edges and nodes are rediscovered for all the features in the current display extent.
