About saving, exporting, and loading animations

An animation created in ArcMap, ArcScene, or ArcGlobe can be persisted in two ways:

  • By saving the ArcMap, ArcScene, or ArcGlobe document (.mxd, .sxd, or .3dd) in which the animation was created.
  • By saving the animation to an independent .ama, .asa, or .aga file.

Furthermore, the animation can be exported to two video formats:

  • Audio Video Interleaved (.avi)
  • QuickTime (.mov) file

Animations can also be exported as sequential images. The supported output formats include Windows Bitmap (.bmp) and JPEG (.jpg). Learn more about exporting an animation as sequential images

A saved animation can be loaded into an appropriate document (map, scene, or globe).
