An overview of the From GPS toolset

The From GPS toolset contains tools to convert Global Positioning System (GPS) files into features.

GPS is a collection of satellites that provide location information to earth-based receivers. The quality of this information varies depending on location, satellite fix, and precision of the GPS receiver.

GPX is a de facto standard maintained by TopoGrafix for saving the results from a GPS receiver. This XML-based standard allows GPS waypoints and tracks to be saved and shared. Points are collected in the WGS84 projection and saved in a latitude–longitude pairing, usually with time and elevation information. Translating GPX files into features allows for their use within ArcGIS.
