Make a layer transparent in ArcGlobe

Available with 3D Analyst license.

Transparency can be used for any symbolization type, but it is especially useful for drawing raster layers with other layers on your map. Adding transparency to the top layers allows you to see them while still viewing underlying layers. You can use either a specific percentage value or an interactive slider to adjust the transparency of a layer inside ArcGlobe or ArcScene.

To use the interactive slider on the 3D Effects toolbar, be sure you have the correct layer selected in the Layer drop-down list on this toolbar.

To review and set transparency using the Display tab of the Layer Properties dialog box, follow the steps below:

1. In the table of contents, right-click the layer you want to apply transparency for and click Properties.
The Layer Properties dialog box opens.
2. Click the Display tab.
3. Type a percentage value in the Transparency box to specify the transparency level for this layer.
A zero value indicates no transparency, but values greater than ninety (90) means the layer generally wont draw at all.
4. Click OK.

Tip:

• Transparency is also supported for group layers. The effect is stored as a property of the group layer, and doesnt change, but overrides the properties of the individual layers in that group. If no transparency is applied to the group, then the effect properties of the individual layers still apply.
