How to set snapping properties in 3D

Use the Snapping Environment window to specify what part of the feature (vertex, edge, or endpoint) you want your new feature to snap to. By checking boxes in the window, as shown in the graphic below, you enable the snapping property type you want to use.

Snapping Environment window

  1. Click the 3D Editor drop-down arrow on the 3D Editor toolbar.
  2. Click Snapping and click Snapping Window.

    The Snapping Environment window appears.

  3. Click the layer and the snap type (vertex, edge, or endpoint) to enable what your new feature to snap to.

The snap types are effective as soon as they are checked.

You can select more than one snap type per layer.

Tip:
  • You can also set snapping properties that apply specifically to an edit sketch using the boxes at the bottom of the Snapping Environment window. Checking the Edit sketch vertices box allows you to snap to vertices in the sketch. With Edit sketch edges, you can snap to the edge or boundary of segments in the sketch. You can check Perpendicular to sketch to snap to a 90-degree angle from the last segment in the sketch.
  • Snapping to Topology elements is only supported in ArcMap.
