Changing a layer's drawing priority

Available with 3D Analyst license.

In ArcScene you can change the drawing priority of each of the layers being displayed, so the more important layers will render on top of the less important layers. Using the 3D Effects toolbar you can change this property quickly.

  1. On the 3D Effects toolbar, click the Layer drop-down arrow and choose the layer you want to change the draw order for.
  2. Click the Change Depth Priority Change Depth Priority button and move the slider to a value.
  3. In the numeric scale for depth priority, 1 is the highest and 10 is the lowest. If you want to decrease priority, choose a higher number.
Tip:
  • The depth priority setting on the 3D Effects toolbar is only applicable in ArcScene. ArcGlobe handles drawing priority differently.
  • This option can also be set in the property dialog box for this layer. Double-click the layer in the table of contents to open the Layer Properties dialog box. Click the Rendering tab and choose the numeric value representing drawing priority.
  • For more information on drawing priority in ArcGlobe and ArcScene, see Layer drawing priority in 3D.
